Artist Statement
Characterizing the likeness of a deeply emotional and passionate nature, this series was created with the intention of alluding to an internal state of awareness, in contrast to a more traditional representation of external likeness. Presenting itself as a “self-portrait of the psyche”, I use gesture and implied movement within this series as a means of rhythmically suggesting a radius of emotion tied intrinsically to the explorative nature of creativity. As a commentary on the yielding dexterity to which one’s imagination has the power to dominate its vessel, the figures in this series appear in a state of unassuming rapture, devoid of connection to the outside world. Initiated photographically through a series of images, alterations were later made in post-production through the use of layering and illustrative techniques.
