ELEMENTS OF EMBODIMENT

Artist Statement

Centralizing around the concept of embodiment, this piece exhibits an amalgamation of elements relating to the body and the natural world, with a particular focus on hybridity, transformation, prosthesis, hylozoism, and the inner lives of cells. Depicting divergent representations of both, within the body and extending beyond the body, this three-dimensional collage creates an obscure interaction of elements extending beyond the borders of individual cells (enclosed acrylic cubes), while simultaneously connecting to one another within a larger composition (the wooden framework/shelving), to depict the convergence of varying narratives. The transformative progression of materiality and subject matter can further be interpreted through the use of scale and magnification, exhibiting similar forms at varying scales.
