Artist Statement
Exploring the structure of matter in relation to thermodynamics, a branch of natural science concerned with heat and its relation to energy and work, I take an interpretive stance within this series.Questioning and challenging the rationality of formal scientific practice, Ire-imagine the natureof phase transition within each frame, rendering different elements and materials open to imaginative re-creation. Interpreting each system in accordance with the visual qualities and forms of the element it embodies, I create a dialogue between the micro and macro, inferring an inherent multiplicity of forms fractally repeated throughout nature. Envisioning one phase or state of matter transitioning into another, emphasis i splaced on textural elements, highlighting a tendency towards entropy, the amount of disorder within asystem. Captured through the use of macro photography, the details of each particular element/material were then composited in post-production.
